May 2    The DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) Certification Process
DBEs are for-profit small businesses where socially and economically disadvantaged individuals own at least a 51% interest and also control management and daily business operations. Learn why you should obtain your DBE Certification and how to avoid your application being denied.

May 3    Antique Appraisals
Mark Moran, a professional appraiser and guest expert on Antiques Roadshow, will be at the main library to give you his opinion on the value of your items. Registration is required to have an item appraised and is limited to the first 40 signed up. Call 444-2241

May 3 - May 4    A Little Night Music
Join Peoria Area Civic Chorale and special guest Dimitri German, for a “little night music” May 3rd and 4th at 7:30 p.m. a Five Points Washington. Enjoy songs such as “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” from State Fair, “Tonight” from West Side Story, “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady, Stephen Foster’s Beautiful Dreamer, Cole Porter’s In the Still of the Night, Hoagy Carmichael’s In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening and The Nearness of You, Dream a Little Dream of Me, plus many more! Friday’s concert will feature a special 75 voice 4th grade Festival Chorus comprised of students from area schools and conclude with a dessert reception. Tickets are $20 adults and $8 for students through college, with a group rate of $18 for 10 adults or more. Tickets are available online at www.peoriacivicchorale.org, by calling 309-693-6725, or at the door.

May 4    Spring Garden Sale
Town & Country Gardeners of Washington will hold their annual spring garden sale on Saturday, May 4, 8am-11am, in front of Martin Financial Services, 100 S. Main, Washington Square. In the event of storms or heavy rain, the sale will be held Saturday, May 11. The sale features a variety of bargain-priced perennials and herbs, garden décor, and gardening supplies. Specialty tote bags, perfect for grocery, farmer’s market, and plant shopping, are a new item this year and will be available for a small donation of $5 each or 2 for $8. Proceeds from the sale will be used for landscaping around the historic marker installed on Washington Square last year and for other city-wide beautification projects and tree plantings.
